We are often asked why it's not yet possible to install Cozy in one click on all hosting services, as we already can on Owncloud.
Cozy uses modern technologies, Node.js and CouchDB, which are rising but still not very well spread yet. Owncloud uses PHP and MySQL, which have been deployed on all hosting services for more than 15 years. In order to install Cozy, uploading a few files is not enough, you need to install all the underlying softwares (Node and Couch) which induces complexity. Moreover, those technologies don't have administration tool as visual as PHP and MySQL yet. You still have to write some command lines to use them.
If hosting services provided servers with Node and Couch similar to a LAMP Stack in the near future, deploying Cozy would be much easier. Gandi already offers that kind of services, but with MongDB, not CouchDB: https://www.gandi.net/hebergement/simple?language=nodejs
In the meantime, you still have to get your hands dirty to install Cozy.
Maybe we will consider looking at containers, such as Docker. Installing Cozy could just be dropping containers on a server, but we're not there yet.
We put a lot of efforts to allow anyone to host his own personal cloud, but we are aware we still have a lot of work to do.
We are working with hosting providers so they allow you to get a Cozy hosted on their infrastructures. We will let you know when the commercial offer is out on our blog. Feel free to subscribe to our newsletter too, if you haven't already!
